YLI 50 wt Silk Rod Wrapping Thread
50 weight Size A on 100 meter spools
The 50 wt Size A thread is heavier than the 100 wt YLI silk thread. This thread is 100% Filament thread from Japan giving it superior strength and a smoother more vibrant finish that spun threads.
Excellent for rod wrapping classic bamboo fly rods. Japanese silks have long been recognized as the finest in the industry.
YLI winds many of the 50wt spools at their base in South Carolina. The other colors are directly sourced in Japan and known as Kanagawa silk, which is same thread, just different spool types.
50 wt and 100 wt spool markings.
50 wt thread comes on two types of spools depending on where it is wound by YLI. Some 50 wt is wound on the same 'Snap Spool' as the familiar 100 wt. To tell which weight thread is spooled just look at the bottom of the spool. #100 is 100 wt thread and #50 is 50 wt thread.
PLEASE NOTE: YLI 50 wt thread is in sporadic supply. If you order multiple quantities of a color and we don't have it in stock, we'll send you what we have.
The thread names below are the primary color name with the secondary color name cross referenced from the Thread Color Chart in the Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair, where applicable, e.g. #078 (Antique Gold).
